Get involved.

Help us inspire the next generation of math learners. Whether you enjoy reading with young students, sharing your passion for mathematics, or supporting our programs behind the scenes, there are many ways to get involved.

Mystery Reader volunteers

We welcome upper elementary and middle school students who love math and reading to become Mystery Readers. It’s a great opportunity for young volunteers to share their interests, build confidence, and inspire younger students.

Mystery Readers participate at our sessions and read engaging stories to younger learners. We provide the books along with a guide for the readers to create “Spark Questions” to ask during the story to encourage students to think, participate, and stay engaged.

Math Masters volunteers

We welcome high school math students with strong competition experience, particularly students who have achieved AMC 10 Honor Roll or higher, to support our Math Master Program.

Volunteers may assist with proctoring, grading, and problem discussions. We provide answer keys and guidance to help volunteers facilitate productive discussions and support students as they develop their problem-solving skills.

This is a great opportunity for experienced math students to give back to the math community and mentor the next generation of math enthusiasts.

Academic contributors: help shape IMIC

The International Mathematical Interdisciplinary Competition (IMIC) is a new competition now in development. It is forming its founding Program Committee ahead of its first edition, planned for August 2027 in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Separate from our program volunteer roles above, IMIC is recruiting university faculty, researchers, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, STEAM professionals, and experienced mathematics educators. Founding opportunities include:

  • Founding Program Committee: shape IMIC’s vision, academic standards, and long-term direction.
  • Question Development & Academic Review: contribute interdisciplinary questions and review their mathematical and scientific accuracy.
  • Assessment Design & Competition Partnerships: help build the assessment framework, recruit participating institutions, and prepare the first competition.

Volunteers for competition operations, technology, and communications are also welcome.

To express interest, email contact@mathinspireslives.org with a brief introduction, your areas of expertise, and how you would like to contribute.
